The project has created considerable immediate economic impact, from the historic renovation of over 145,000 square feet of abandoned commercial building space, to a new state-of-the-art fiber optic and Wi-Fi network. Beyond the infrastructure investments, the project has resulted in significant economic impact from the establishment of a technology district that has brought 200-300 talented, enterprising professionals and many more guests to live, work, and play in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Research indicates that most net new jobs are created by companies less than five years old, and the technology communications sector is leading global growth. Our local technology sector is emerging and has developed the density and infrastructure to grow. Since 2014, Codefi and its affiliates have created over 30 technology-based startups that have attracted over $7.5 million in private investments and created over 90 jobs. The Marquette Tech District is a long-term effort to attract, nurture, and promote Cape Girardeau’s tech economy through a combination of technology-enabled initiatives and business incentives, private business support, and member-driven programming.
